Defective Bed Handle Lawyer

October 29, 2014 | Attorney, Matthew Dolman
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is reporting that Bed Handles, Inc., based in Blue Springs, Missouri, is recalling approximately 113,000 portable bed handles designed to help adults get in and out of bed. According to the CPSC's website, under certain conditions the bed handles can shift out of place creating a gap between the device and the edge of the mattress, creating a risk of entrapment, strangulation, and even fatal injury. The agency reports that 3 women have died after being trapped between the handles and their mattress. The victims were a woman of unknown age in Minnesota, 41 year old disabled woman in Washington State, and an 81 year old woman also in Washington. The products at issue were sold between 1994 and 2007 that did not include a safety retention strap that is designed to prevent the bed handle from shifting during use. They were sold in home health stores, drug stores, and home and health care catalogs for approximately $100. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the bed handles and contact Bed Handles, Inc. for safety retention straps to secure the handles to the bed frame.

Defective adult home health devices can cause serious injury

People who are disabled or have limited mobility are often already more vulnerable to physical injury than those in good health. When devices designed to help these individuals perform daily tasks fail, the injuries they sustain can often be catastrophic. Among the types of adult home health devices that are capable of causing serious injuries include:
  • Bathroom safety grab bars
  • Stair lifts
  • Walkers
  • Scooters
  • Wheelchairs
Determining whether an accident involving a home health device was the result of a product defect is often a very complicated process that requires technical and legal analysis. As a result, anyone injured in a home health device accident should discuss their case with an attorney as soon as possible. The attorneys of the Dolman Law Group Accident Injury Lawyers, PA, are dedicated to helping injured people recover, and work hard to get each client we represent the maximum compensation available by law.
