On July 18, we filed a complaint against tech giants Roblox and Discord for negligent design, inadequate safeguards, and failure to protect children in the Circuit Court in and for San Mateo, California.
The following information expands on our press release about our lawsuit in San Mateo and answers some common questions about the Roblox and Discord Lawsuits.
Lawsuit Against Roblox Filed by Dolman Law Group
On July 18, 2025, we filed a civil lawsuit against Roblox Corporation and Discord, Inc., alleging that the companies enabled and facilitated child exploitation by their actions and inactions on their dangerously under-regulated platforms.
The complaint was filed in the Superior Court of California in San Mateo County, where Roblox is headquartered. The lawsuit centers on an 11-year-old girl from Florida, identified in court documents as Jane Doe R.M., who was groomed and sexually exploited through communication features on Roblox and Discord.
Our client was targeted by a sexual predator who groomed her over an extended period of time. The predator persuaded this child to meet up in person. In turn, the perpetrator drove to meet this child at her grandfather’s home in Florida, kidnapped the young girl forcefully, and drove her to a secluded location where he raped the child.
Roblox, boasting over 380 million active monthly users, is a platform where users create and interact within gaming experiences. At the same time, Discord offers chat, voice, and video communication, which are often used by Roblox communities.
Allegations of our Roblox Sexual Exploitation Lawsuit
Our lawsuit seeks to hold Roblox accountable for failing to implement basic child safety protections, misleading parents, and creating environments that exposed children to grooming and harm by online and real-world predators.
Our lawsuit stems from harm caused to a Florida minor who was an active user of both apps.
According to our complaint, the child was groomed through communication and chat features on Roblox and Discord that eventually resulted in serious and preventable harm to the child.
We allege that Roblox Corporation and Discord’s platforms are designed in a way that makes children easily accessible to bad actors, all while falsely promoting their products as safe for minors to parents.

Roblox Misrepresented the Safety of Their Platform
Essentially, the Roblox online gaming platform prioritized onboarding as many users as possible to their platform to increase the valuation of their company over the safety of minors.
More specifically, Roblox avoided implementing simple safety features such as age verification for years despite having knowledge of the prevalence of child sexual exploitation and sexual predators on their online platform.
Roblox, in particular, is promoted as the #1 online game for kids and teens, with more than 380 million monthly users—nearly 40% of whom are under age 13.
The platform allows user-generated content, chat functions, and experiences that the lawsuit says often include sexually inappropriate themes and interactions that exploit children.
Discord Has Also Played A Role in Failing to Protect Children
Discord is similarly marketed as a place for social connection. Still, it has become a known gathering space for online communities to continue conversations off-platform, often with even less oversight, which is why predators lead to their victims there.
Together, the platforms created what our complaint calls a “breeding ground for predators,” where exploitation was not only possible but predictable. Child safety concerns were ignored by Roblox to the detriment of young users.
Our lawsuit seeks monetary damages for the victim and demands systemic change in how Roblox and Discord approach child safety. Our complaint accuses both companies of failing to monitor their platforms adequately, ignoring widespread reports of inappropriate content and user behavior, and providing parents with a false sense of security.

What is the Roblox lawsuit?
This lawsuit, filed by Dolman Law Group and multiple other unrelated law firms, alleges that Roblox and Discord negligently designed and operated platforms that exposed children to sexual exploitation, sextortion, and sexual assault. In other cases we have found children sharing sexually explicit images for Roblox’s virtual currency known as Robux.
It focuses on the companies’ failure to enforce meaningful safeguards, their misleading claims about safety, and their refusal to act on known dangers. The legal action seeks accountability for harm that occurred because these platforms prioritized growth over basic user protection.
Who Qualifies for the Roblox Lawsuit?
Families may be eligible to file a Roblox lawsuit if their child was targeted, groomed, or harmed after using Roblox or Discord. The lawsuit does not require a criminal conviction, only that the platforms contributed to the conditions that allowed exploitation to occur. If your child interacted with predators on these apps or was exposed to harmful content, you may qualify.
However, based on our firm’s internal criteria, to qualify for a lawsuit against Roblox in cases where the misconduct was limited to grooming on the platform and did not develop into exploitation or real-world meetings, the child must have either documented therapy records or a recorded behavioral issue at school.
This proves that the grooming they experienced caused them proper damage.

- In-person meet-up – between perpetrator and child where rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, or the intent for sexual assault occurred or was thwarted.
- Sextortion – wherein the child was threatened or coerced into sending sexually explicit images or videos. The perpetrator often threatens to share the content with classmates, friends, or parents, leading to humiliation and fear. These cases typically involve the child producing child sexual abuse material (“CSAM,” sometimes referred to as “kiddie porn”).
- Received explicit content or attempted sextortion – where the child was sent sexually explicit images by the abuser or faced coercion to produce and share such content.
- Grooming with documented impact – involving repeated and consistent communication with the child that became sexual in tone. A grooming claim must be supported by either therapy records (psychiatric or psychological treatment) or an in-school behavioral incident. Documentation must show the grooming negatively impacted the child’s mental health.
All claims are due to the fact that Roblox Corporation failed to implement basic safety features, including but not limited to age verification, that would have prevented child predators from using the gaming platform as a hunting ground. The psychological harm suffered by these children is unimaginable. These dangerous interactions could have been limited and even avoided.

What Compensation is Available for Sexual Abuse Victims?
Potential financial compensation will cover any damages, including emotional distress, costs of counseling or therapy, and other losses tied to the sexual abuse, emotional, or physical harm suffered by these vulnerable users.
In some cases, punitive damages may also be awarded to punish Roblox and Discord for their reckless disregard for child safety.
Roblox lied to the general public and their shareholders, touting the safety of the platform for years, despite being aware of countless incidents involving the sexual exploitation, grooming, and abuse of children due to lax safety measures on the app.
Roblox knew of many youth who were sexually assaulted or subjected to sex trafficking. They failed to take any meaningful steps to address their issues with online predators.
Rather than protect children, they focused on user engagement and growth.
