Frequently Asked Questions

A class action lawsuit filed in the Northern District of California alleges that Roblox built its platform around the creative labor of minors — then made it nearly impossible for them to get paid. Despite promising young creators they could “Earn Serious Cash,” only 1,000 of 27 million published games generated more than $30,000. Roblox, meanwhile, went public at a $41 billion valuation.

Possibly. If your child performed development work on Roblox as a minor — creating games, scripts, assets, or other content — and was paid only in Robux or not at all, they may qualify. The key factors are whether they were under 18 at the time, performed documented work, and were blocked from converting their earnings to real currency.

Robux is Roblox’s virtual currency, introduced in 2007. While 400 Robux costs approximately $5 to purchase, converting earned Robux back into real money requires a minimum of 30,000 Robux and a paid Roblox Premium subscription. Roblox also took a 30% cut of every transaction. Most child developers never came close to meeting the cashout requirements.

Yes — and their claim may be particularly strong. Children under 13 were completely barred from Roblox’s Developer Exchange program by the platform’s own age restrictions — meaning they could never convert their Robux earnings to real money under any circumstances. The lawsuit specifically addresses this as a deliberate design choice.

Work that may qualify includes creating games, writing scripts, designing characters or assets, building virtual environments, animation, moderation, and other development activities — particularly if performed at the request of an adult user, a Roblox studio, or for Roblox itself.

Yes. Roblox’s Talent Hub functioned as a labor marketplace — with some postings explicitly listing full-time positions open to minors. Being recruited through the Talent Hub and performing work for an adult or studio is directly relevant to a potential claim.

That may strengthen a claim. Many child developers worked for unregulated studios with no contracts, no formal agreements, and no legal recourse when payment was withheld or reduced. Roblox provided no HR support, no contract tools, and no oversight for these arrangements.

Yes. If you performed development work on Roblox while under 18 and were compensated only in Robux or not at all, you may still have legal options as a young adult. Contact us to discuss your specific circumstances
