Office Chair Recall Lawyer

October 29, 2014 | Attorney, Matthew Dolman
Sometimes the most seemingly benign consumer products can cause serious injuries. As a case in point, Office Depot has recently announced a recall of its Office Depot brand Gibson Leather Task Chairs due to a risk of serious injury. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) recall summary, the chairs are constructed in such a way as to create a risk of the mounting plate weld breaking, separating the seat from its base creating the potential for users to fall. Because of the serious injuries that may result from an unexpected fall, consumers who have been injured by these or any other defective office chairs should contact one of the Clearwater product liability attorneys at the Dolman Law Group Accident Injury Lawyers, PA, immediately.

Over 1 million chairs affected

There are approximately 1.4 million units affected by the recall. The Gibson Leather Task Chairs are black, armless chairs that sit on a black base with 5 wheels. According to the recall details, Office Depot has received approximate 153 reports of issues with the seat plate weld. Among the injuries that have been reported are contusions, abrasions, injuries to the head, neck, a fractured back, and a fractured hip, some of which required medical attention. Consumers are advised to discontinue using the chairs and return them to an Office Depot location for store credit.

Falls caused by consumer products can have serious consequences

While the issues associated with these particular chairs have been relatively minor, falls are capable of causing extremely serious injuries. These injuries could result in significant medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, as well loss of quality of life. Among the injuries that a person can sustain in a fall caused by a consumer product include:
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Broken bones
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Neurological injuries
