Recent Product Recalls to be Aware of in Pinellas County

As consumers, we expect that when we purchase a certain product, that said product will work the way it claims to work. We also expect that we can use said product with that product causing harm to ourselves. However, in a world where quality is sacrificed for profit, manufacturers often take shortcuts in the design or manufacturing of a product. This leads to millions of Americans getting injured each year from these defective products. The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) keeps track of recalls and defective products.

  • PetSmart Top Fin Plastic Aquarium Heaters: PetSmart recently recalled 33,000 if its aquarium heaters as a result of the heaters being insufficiently grounded. This can expose the user to electric shock and injury. Consumers should immediately unplug the heater and stop use.
  • Johnson Outdoors Diving Dive Computers: For those many Florida residents who enjoy diving, make sure you are not using the Scuba Pro Aladin2 dive computer. It has been discovered that the computer can leak, resulting in the failure of the device. This can cause serious harm to divers if they cannot accurately gauge their compression readings. It can result in such injuries as decompression sickness. Consumers should immediately stop using the computers and replace with a different model. About 350 have been recalled.
  • Samson International Bar Stool: About 800 Samson International Spencer bar stools have been recalled due to the tendency of the feet of the stool to crack, weakening the structural integrity of the product and causing it to break and users to fall off of the stool. The stools are exclusively sold at Costco and should be immediately be returned.
  • VIZIO E-Series 39-inch and 42-inch flat panel televisions:  VIZIO has recently recalled over 245,000 of its 39 and 42-inch flat screen televisions for repair due to the stand’s vulnerability to failing, causing the TV to fall and create a threat of an impact injury to the consumer. Consumers should immediately remove their television from the stand and request a replacement stand from VIZIO.
  • L.L. Bean Children’s sweater: L.L. Bean has recently recalled about 5,300 of its Fishermen’s and Open Stitch children’s sweaters. The sweaters, sold in little girl sizes 4 to 7, were recalled due to a potential choking hazard. Consumers should immediately return the sweaters to the L.L. Bean where it was purchased.
