Pradaxa Lawyer

Pradaxa is a very popular anticoagulant (blood thinner) used for the prevention of blood clots and to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with heart rhythm disorders. Because Pradaxa thins the blood, it causes its users to bleed easily, even from minor injuries. Pradaxa can also cause serious internal hemorrhaging in the brain, intestines and kidneys, heart attacks, and death. Almost immediately upon Pradaxa's release, the FDA began to receive hundreds of reports of these types of internal bleeding, some of which lead to the patient's death. (The FDA received 500 reports within the first 6 months of Pradaxa's release). Since that time, the number of people suffering from Pradaxa's side effects has continued to rapidly increase. In 2011, Pradaxa users reported almost 3,781 instances of side effects and 542 deaths - more than any other prescription medication. On March 6, 2012 a report on Pradaxa conducted by the Journal of Neurosurgery stated that once Pradaxa causes internal bleeding, there is very little that doctors can do to stop it. Despite this information, the FDA still maintains that Pradaxa provides an “important health benefit” and refuses to take it off the shelves. Boehringer Ingelheim, the drug's manufacturer, says that it intends to work with the FDA “to provide better guidance to physicians” in prescribing the drug, though the drug is still being prescribed to millions of people across the country. The fact that the drug is still available however, has not hindered the ability of patients who have been harmed by the drug from recovery. To date, around 200 former Pradaxa users have filed lawsuits against Boehringer Ingleheim in Multijurisdictional Lawsuit. If you or someone you know suffered internal hemorrhaging following the use of Pradaxa, you may be entitled to recover for your injuries.
