Potential new link uncovered between Traumatic Brain Injuries and parkinson's Disease.
As a Clearwater personal injury attorney, I often represent victims of automobile accidents who have suffered a traumatic brain injury. Traumatic brain injuries (hereinafter referred to as "TBI's") are a result of a physical injury, which causes the brain itself to collidewith the inside of the skull. We have recently come across scientificevidence that TBI's can be caused by whiplash (http://www.dolmanlaw.com/blog/whiplash-traumatic-brain-injury). TBI's are often difficult to detect and even more challenging to treat.
A new published study conducted jointly by the Mayo Clinic and UCLA School of Medicine have correlated a link between TBI's and the potential for the victim of such injury to develop Parkinson's Disease. While the study does not conclude that TBI's cause Parkinson's disease, it displays disturbing evidence that victims of TBI's have a dramatically stronger likelihood of eventually developing Parkinson's. The link isbased on the significant loss of specific neuron cells in the brain after aTBI. In turn, a loss of such cells is a major risk factor for the development and progression of Parkinson's disease. (For more information on this study: http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/478599 ).
If you, a loved one, friend, colleague or acquaintance has suffered a traumatic brain injury or has manifested with clinical signs of a brain injury following an automobile accident, please explain to this individual how important it is to obtain competent legal representation. Clinical signs of a traumatic brain injury include memory loss, confusion, disorientation, irritability, difficulty staying on task, short and long term memory loss, depression, anxiety among others. Many attorneys claim to handle brain injury cases but have little to no experience pursuing such claims against insurance carriers. Many attorneys fail to keep up on the latest scientific information and studies in this ever-changing fluid area of medicine and the law. At Dolman Law Group, we have handled a number of closed head injury cases in which the victim was diagnosed with a mild traumatic brain injury. This is a niche practice area in which all attorneys at our firm are required to regularly keep up on the latest scientific studies and post blog articles illustrating new information. In turn this challenges our attorneys to keep up on the latest science so that we may effectively advocate our client's claim. - Matthew A. Dolman, Esq.
